Studio Visit: Alessandro Valerio
Alessandro's formal inquiries enable him to interact with the natural object and its surroundings, using planimetrics, collography, found materials and their reorganization in order to reflect on man´s presence in nature. This dialogue provokes a sense of ambivalence: on one hand it expands our concept of the boundaries of exhibit space and on the other it invites the spectator to re-engage and take back the space.
The intervention of public spaces in his work encourages cultural activation through aesthetic experience, specifically near rivers in his community. He has focused on sedimentation, the dynamics of nature, the ephemeral, and the idea of The Real which is given and The Real which is modified.
Additionally, he researches other dynamics such as how to approach the artistic object, procuring social spaces with community members to generate a contextualized aesthetic experience whose meaning is brought to life when, through this active participation, a pedagogical process emerges as a continuation of his work.
Alessandro Valerio was born in 1992 in San Jose. He resides in Heredia, working in San Rafael, Heredia, Costa Rica.
