Studio Visit: Sussan Corrales
Sussan is constantly designing: small, random, minimalist compositions surround her workspace. Her project Metáfora was born out of a drive to be self-taught. She approaches her work through formal and syntactical investigations of materials, color and form. Drawing in particular has become a central concept in her praxis.
Her compositions are focused on furnishings for which she recovers different materials, including recycling processes, to build objects that enter into dialogue with the space: highly ordered, meticulous designs focused on minimalism. The influence of architectural thought has enabled her to broaden her methodology. Her goal when designing a product is not to generate a consumerist dynamic but rather harmonize what is already there, discovering its experimental possibilities.
Sussan Corrales was born in 1991 in Grecia, Costa Rica, where she lives and works. Learn more about Corrales on Instagram or Facebook, or contact her by e-mail.
The artist is part of the residency program La última which starts on May 2018.
