Unlike the last residence, La última emerges with a different perspective; an outlook in which modes of labour turn towards a comunal point of view. This general idea breaks perceptions of individuality in studios, and instead creates a collective space of information and communication exchange. The focus of the residency is to contribute contemporary theories and artistic practices that are created from dialogue, and fomenting encounters between artists and their corresponding processes.
La última posits a space where residents have an opportunity to combine and stimulate their artistic practices—research, selection, production, and others—as producers of situations, processes, and collective work according to their studio engagement. These practices allow for their work to evolve with actions and relations which amplifies their site of productions and knowledge beyond the work of art as a ‘final product’. As well, these modes of operation incentivize and propose dialogue as a vital tool of understanding, recognition, and allotment of knowledge.
The project primarily addresses the identity and importance of artistic spaces in Costa Rica. These nine artists are aware of new developments in the contemporary visual arts, recents modes of exposition, unique interactions with other disciplines, and relevant issues within and outside the arts.
The program of the artist-run space will be announced continuously on Despacio’s FB page.
